Andrew Copolov is an architectural designer and researcher from Melbourne specialising in social infrastructure for precarious urban communities. His work combines spatial and strategic practice with ethnographic research, focusing on how architecture can support precarious workers and create more equitable cities.
He completed his PhD in Architecture at Monash University in 2025, he holds an MA in Architecture from the Royal College of Art, and a BA in Architecture from Monash University. In 2022, he founded the Gig Workers' Hub, a community centre and staffroom for Melbourne’s food delivery riders. The initiative provided basic amenities, gathering space, and a base for collective action, and in 2025 was named Premier's Volunteer Organisation of the Year at the Volunteering Victoria Awards. He was also co-director of the Melbourne Art Library from 2021 to 2025.
Currently, he advises Victorian and New South Wales government departments on delivery rider safety and gig worker infrastructure. He has contributed to urban policy with the City of Melbourne and to worker rights discussions at the Fair Work Commission. His research has been published in journals including Urban Geography and Human Geography, and his work has been featured in media including The Guardian Australia, ArchitectureAU, ABC News, and The Age. He has worked at practices including Bates Smart and MGS Architects, taught design studios at Monash University, and lectured at institutions including TU Berlin, RMIT, and the Royal College of Art.
